Mr. Jerzy Karpinski, M.D., Gdansk region surgeon general has informed media on the current state of health of Archbishop Tadeusz Goclowski CM who yesterday, March 7, 2010, was admitted to the Neurology Clinics of Gdansk University Medical Center with suspected stroke. This suspition, said Dr. Karpinski, has not confirmed yet. According to his assessment, patient feels well and should return home within a few days.
In the matter of diagnosis Dr. Karpinski said that first media releases about stroke did not confirm. According to him, it was a neurological incident, probably so called transitional ischemic incident. However, because of medical confidentiality he declined to give further details.
Archbishop Goclowski has been staying in the intensive care unit of neurological clinics, but since yesterday, his health greatly improved. The patient is walking around the ward by himself. He had a roll of bread for breakfast and drank a glass of milk. He is in a good mood and talking to staff. If there are no complications, the patient will be transferred to ordinary hospital room on Tuesday that, and in a few days he night return home.
Professor Walenty Nyka of the University Hospital in Gdansk, had earlier in the day told Radio Gdańsk, he has got the same opinion about the health of the Archbishop. He confirmed that Archbishop is conscious, walking and talking. Pharmacological treatment will be included and performed all the necessary diagnostic tests.
